Bagan Pinang By Election : Time To Reflect
For a start, i would like to congratulate AMK Pahang for their hardworks during the campaign period at Bagan Pinang.Winning & Loosing is always part and parcel of life, most importantly how do you manage them.
From the onset we already realize the daunting task for us to unseat BN in this by election, given the fact that it is ISA's homeground & backyard. So doesn't matter on how tainted this guy, is people will just go and vote for him. To make the matter worst, postal votes alone constitute about 35% of the overall votes.Well, we all know the result already, ISA won by landslide majority of more than 5,400 votes.
But, voters aside, talking purely from PR point of view, there are 2 things that we really need to improvise internally to get our act together.
1. A more INCLUSIVE Pakatan Rakyat machinery: Almost every by election, PR components i.e Keadilan,PAS & DAP love to project individual identity rather than projecting PR identity & struggle (Towards Better & Just government). The machinery also tend to organize their activities on their own rather than having standard masterplan for the campaign activities. This method of campaigning might works well in certain areas like Northern & Klang Valley plus Kelantan (Our own home turf) BUT if we are playing at BN turf (Southern Peninsular, East Malaysia plus Pahang maybe) we should better prepare ourselves for their onslaught
2. Excellent Post Election Service : Also common feedback that the campaigners recieved from the local voters that they were neglected right after our candidates won the seats after March 2008 General Election. They complaints that the elected representative never visit them after Mar-2008, nobody listend to their grouses. What in these voters mind are, We are no better than BN representative. So, if we are in their position what should we do ? To me, any short term gain be in RM50 or RM500 will be enough for me to cast my vote to BN.We, PR can do better on this.
Finally, I am pretty sure Bagan Pinang is the last by election that we are going to go through until next GE. So be prepare.
